Storyteller. Award-winning journalist.
Debut Novelist.
Julie Carli is an award-winning journalist and podcast producer whose work has appeared on Gimlet, Spotify, Audible, and Vox Media. She covers the stories that live at the intersection of pressing and strange — from an American hostage caught in the crossfires of the Iranian nuclear deal to the surprisingly war-torn history of the sexiest M&M. Her reporting has been nominated for an Ambie and won a SoCal Journalism Award.
When The Monsters Call, her debut novel, is what happens when a decade of listening to people tell the truth about their lives turns into fiction.

About Julie
Born and raised in Southern California, Julie has spent nearly a decade reporting on the weird, the messy, and the human. She's lived in the South, West Hollywood, and Australia — and that curiosity shows up in her work. She's drawn to the stories that don't resolve cleanly, told through the kind of interviews where people surprise themselves.
As a journalist and podcast producer, she's built a reputation for enterprise reporting with an empathic ear. Her work has run on Gimlet, Spotify, Audible, and Vox Media, covering everything from nuclear diplomacy to true crime to the unexpected histories hiding inside everyday American life.
Her debut novel, When The Monsters Call, grew out of that same instinct — a form-bending story about the greasier parts of womanhood and a natural world that won't stay silent. She holds a Master's in global media from the University of Melbourne and a Bachelor's in philosophy from Vanderbilt University.
